Welcome to the farm

We hope you, your family and friends are safe and well.

Welcome to the first post for James P. Donnelly Fruit Farm. We’re based in Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland where we grow plump, sweet strawberries and deliciously crisp apples for delivery to wholesalers and shops across Ireland.

We’re not just passionate about producing the sweetest strawberries in the country, we feel it’s important to share how we produce our fine strawberries and apples and the incredible health benefits they provide.

In this blog we will mainly focus on the fruit farm, what is happening across the seasons, nutritional reports and information and we’ll also showcase easy to follow recipes, to give you an idea of how versatile our produce is.

To kick us off, here’s a quick and healthy Breakfast Berry Muesli, great for boosting energy and digestion.

If you've grown bored of breakfast cereals and are struggling to find something nutritious, with no added sugar and a good source of slow releasing energy, this recipe is a breakfast winner! It can be eaten with yoghurt as shown or in a bowl with milk.

Method

  • Pre-heat the oven to 190C, 375F, Gas 5.

  • Scatter rolled porridge oats (any brand) on a baking sheet (3 sheets will fill a x ltr storage jar ).

  • Scatter mixed seeds (sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds) and chopped nuts (hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds & pecans) on a baking sheet.

  • Place all sheets in the oven for 7 mins to toast.

  • Remove nuts & seeds and oats from the oven.

  • Stir the oats and place back in the oven for a further 6 mins.

  • Remove and allow to cool then mix the oats, nuts & seeds together and decant into a storage jar.

  • Serve with Greek yoghurt (fruit yoghurts go just a well, although they contain more sugar) and fresh, sliced strawberries - for a tasty alternative to porridge.

....Or server in a bowl with milk and a handful of blueberries and raspberries for extra fruitiness.
